Views from the Grove Park Inn: Top view is looking down across the valley from the patio cafe. You can see the roof of the spa below. The bottom view is from the spa, looking back up at the hotel. Quite an interesting structure.
The GPI Attendees:
Top photo: the ladies, looking lovely.
Bottom photo: Ah, gazing at such loveliness can cause such an, er, embarrasing reaction.

Yet more GPI:
Top photo: notice how just about every picture includes cocktails? That's about how the weekend went. . . .
Bottom photo: In a horrible accident that almost ruined the entire evening, Ann Musselman, unaware that her finger was still loaded, accidently shoots me in the eye. Fortunately, my contact lens deflected the shot. Then again, perhaps is wasn't Ann's finger that was loaded. . . .

I hope you enjoy your blog as much as I enjoyed setting it up and bugging the crap out of people making them blog on it. I'd call it a labor of love, but I think the Elephant Man may have been a labor of love too. Let's call it a labor of friendship. . . . How's that working for ya?

Lisa, I can't believe I have been able to share this special birthday with you and such good friends of yours and Bill's. Forty years of having a daughter who means the world to me and so many memories to think about and store in my heart for another time. All kidding aside, what memories have been made in the past 8 days...Jeff and I have been honored to be part of your incredible birthday celebration, both in Dallas and in North Carolina. I feel so fortunate to have you for a friend...and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. Thanks for my first Willow Tree figure; I'll treasure it ...and your friendship always.

Wow! I've never blogged for anyone before. Seriously, this has been so much fun. Planning your 40th birthday celebration was a treat, from start to finish. I feel like I know you so well, I wanted everything to be just perfect for you. I hope you've had a great time. I love being friends with you and I hope we have many, many more birthday celebrations together. You are the best. Celebrate and enjoy this day and this week with your mom. You deserve the best.
I love you lots,
Noel

O-Tay. The party has commenced, the margarita machine is humming, there are tunes -- bad tunes from the 70's -- playing, and we're starting to get folks liquored up. Now to get some birthday wishes going. . . .

Lisa: Thanks so much for inviting us all out to North Carolina last weekend. The Grove Park Inn was just stunning. We had a wonderful time -- at least what I can remember of it! My liver is still recovering.
The golf was great, the amenities were top notch, and the company was fabulous. Maybe an annual thing? Next time, though, perhaps we'll fit in some white water rafting. Just an idea.
Additionally, thanks for being such a good friend to Anne Marie. I really appreciate the opportunity for our families to get together, whether just for kids' birthday parties, adult dinners out at Javier's, swim dates in the Drummond back yard, trips to the Amend's place at Cedar Creek Lake, or even Indian Princess campouts with Bill and Maggie. And I'm looking forward to a great party this Saturday, at the Mussleman's.
